Our team selected by Jeunesse Active de Rouen has returned from an incredible journey to Porto, Portugal, where we served as an official partner for the Erasmus+ project: "Water Protectors: Building a Sustainable Future" on 12 March, 2025. Alongside partners from Portugal, Hungary, and Azerbaijan, our French participants spent a week diving deep into the environmental challenges facing our most precious resource. In a world where water scarcity is becoming a global reality, this project gave our youth the tools to step up as environmental leaders.

Why Water Protection is the Fight of a Generation

In the 21st century, water is no longer just a resource, it is "blue gold." For today’s youth, understanding water sustainability is critical because climate change is rapidly altering the water cycle, leading to extreme droughts and unpredictable floods. As the generation that will inherit these challenges, young people must move beyond basic awareness. They need to understand water management systems, the impact of industrial pollution, and how to advocate for policies that protect natural springs. Mastering "eco-leadership" today ensures that we have the strategic minds necessary to preserve life-sustaining ecosystems for tomorrow. And that is exacly what we did on our week (6-12 March, 2025) in Porto.

Action on the Ground: The Water Protectors Agenda

The schedule was a perfect blend of scientific theory and hands-on activism.

  • Climate Activism & Eco-Leadership: We participated in workshops that taught us how to organize local campaigns and lead with a "green" mindset. We explored our own ecological footprints and discussed how to lower our impact through intentional, sustainable living.

  • The River Experience: One of the most powerful days involved a trip to the local river. We practiced Mindfulness in Nature, using our five senses to connect with the water's flow. This was followed by a Nature Photography session, where we learned "Digital Storytelling" using images to tell the story of our environment and advocate for its protection.

  • Creative Resource Management: We took part in a Clay Workshop, connecting with the earth and learning about using natural resources responsibly. These creative sessions reminded us that protecting the planet requires both a scientific mind and a creative heart.

A Sustainable Community

Beyond the environmental training, the project was a masterclass in intercultural exchange. From shared cultural meals to team-building games organized by our "Caring Team," we built a community based on inclusion and mutual respect. We explored the local culture of Porto, discovering how different regions value and protect their natural habitats.

Our French participants are coming home not just with memories, but with a mission. They are ready to bring these sustainable water solutions back to France and inspire others to join the movement.
