The French team selected by Jeunesse Active de Rouen traveled to the coastal beauty of Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus, between 9 to 17 May, 2024 for a project that truly lived up to its name: "Voices of Change." As an official partner in this exchange, we had the privilege of co-creating a space where young people from across Europe didn't just talk about the future but started building the tools to shape it. This exchange was about taking the stories inside of us and learning how to tell them in a way that the world has to listen.

I. Mastering the Art of the Message

The core of the week was spent diving into Digital Storytelling. We realized that in the digital age, being a "voice of change" means more than just having an opinion, it means knowing how to package that opinion into something impactful.

Media Literacy: We spent time deconstructing how media works, learning to look at news and social content with a critical eye. By understanding how information is shaped, we became better at creating our own honest and powerful narratives.

Creative Mediums: The group moved beyond text, experimenting with podcasts, photography, and short documentaries. These were ways for us to share our perspectives on heavy topics like social inequality, climate change, and mental health in ways that people actually want to listen to.

II. From Participation to Advocacy

A major goal of "Voices of Change" was to move us from being passive social media users to becoming Agents of Change. We participated in workshops that focused on social justice and youth engagement, discussing how we can actively tackle the inequalities we see in our own home cities.

We engaged in deep "Reflection Circles" where we didn't just identify problems, but brainstormed actual ways to solve them. By the end of the week, the atmosphere in Cyprus was one of total empowerment, everyone felt that their voice didn't just matter, but was necessary for a better society.

III. Culture, Connection, and Community

Of course, the magic of an Erasmus+ exchange is the human connection. Our days in Cyprus were balanced with "Cultural Breakfasts" where we shared flavors from our home countries and team-building games that turned strangers into a unified European team.

A highlight of the trip was a rejuvenating cruise to the Blue Lagoon. Floating in the crystal-clear water and exploring local historical sites allowed us to bond in a way that made our collaborative work even stronger. It’s hard to advocate for a better world if you don’t stop to appreciate the beauty of the one we already have.

Final Reflections

As our participants return to France, they bring back more than just new technical skills in podcasting and video production. They bring back a sense of responsibility. We’ve learned that being a leader doesn't always mean standing at the front; sometimes, it means using your platform to amplify the voices of those who aren't being heard.

A huge thank you to the organizers and all the international partners. The collaboration and creativity that blossomed in Polis Chrysochous have left a permanent mark on us all. Let's keep being the change we want to see!
