Our final day of cooking workshops was a testament to how much this group has grown. We moved from the olive groves of Greece to the diverse urban kitchens of Germany, proving that culture is both a heritage we inherit and a future we build together.
🇬🇷 Lunch: The Spirit of the Agora
We began under the beautiful Caen sun with a presentation from the Greek team. There is perhaps no food more iconic for sharing than Souvlaki and Gyros.
The History & Etymology: "Souvlaki" comes from the medieval Greek souvla (spit/skewer). Archaeological finds prove that Greeks have been grilling meat on skewers for over 3,000 years!
The Significance: In Greece, this isn't just "fast food"; it represents the Agora, the public gathering space. It’s food meant to be eaten while walking, talking, and debating. We enjoyed our handmade wraps outside, soaking in the sun and the flavors of oregano, lemon, and fresh tzatziki.
🇩🇪 Afternoon: Germany’s Modern Mosaic
The German team provided one of the most poignant moments of the project. Instead of a singular traditional dish, they presented a menu that reflects the inclusive, multicultural reality of modern Germany.
The Menu: We prepared a soul-warming Ukrainian Borscht, a fragrant Indian Curry, and a classic German Dessert.
The Significance: This session was a powerful lesson in Integration and Solidarity. By choosing dishes from Ukraine and India alongside German sweets, the team showed that a nation’s "table" is always growing. It was a beautiful tribute to the diverse backgrounds of the participants themselves and a reminder that Erasmus+ is about building an inclusive Europe.
📝 The Final Reflection
As the sun began to set, we gathered for our Final Evaluation. Looking back at the week, from the first icebreakers on Day 1 to the complex recipes of Day 6, the growth was visible. We didn't just learn how to cook; we learned how to listen, how to lead, and how to appreciate the "spice" that diversity brings to our lives.
🥂 The Farewell Party: Not "Goodbye," but "See You Later"
We concluded the journey with a Farewell Party and a celebration that lasted into the night. There were hugs, exchanges of social media handles, and promises to visit one another in France, Germany, Hungary, North Macedonia, Greece, and Portugal.
We started as strangers sharing a kitchen; we ended as a family sharing a vision for a united, flavorful Europe.
