11 March 2023 marked the official kickoff of the "United Chefs" youth exchange, a unique project dedicated to exploring culture through the universal language of food. We’ve gathered a passionate group of young people to share their heritage, learn about sustainable gastronomy, and most importantly, cook up some lifelong friendships.
Who’s in the Kitchen?
We are incredibly proud to host a diverse group of participants who have traveled from all corners of Europe to join us. A huge welcome to our teams from:
France 🇫🇷
Germany 🇩🇪
Hungary 🇭🇺
North Macedonia 🇲🇰
Greece 🇬🇷
Portugal 🇵🇹
What is "United Chefs" All About?
This isn't just about recipes; it’s about intercultural dialogue. The purpose of this project is to use traditional dishes as a bridge between nations. Over the coming week, we have explored:
1. Cultural Heritage: Understanding the history behind our favorite meals.
2. Sustainability: Discussing ecology and how to cook with a lower environmental impact.
3. Teamwork: Building "youth work" skills through collaborative cooking and workshops.
Breaking the Ice
Our first day was all about arrival and connection. After everyone settled into the accommodation, we dove straight into icebreakers and name-learning games. It didn’t take long for the initial shyness to disappear, replaced by laughter and a growing sense of camaraderie.
To wrap up the evening, we sat down to discuss our community rules and the upcoming schedule. Establishing a safe, respectful environment is key to ensuring that this week in Caen was not only fun but also a meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.
Stay tuned as we turn up the heat in the next few days🍳
